Wellness
A pool under the old stone vaults, a sauna, a steam room and a lime-shaded terrace behind the house, all for residents and included in the room. It is rarely busy for long.
Quellbad
The cellar was dug out and vaulted in brick when the house went up, and in 1978 it was lined and filled. The pool is eleven metres long and between 1.2 and 1.5 metres deep, kept at 29 degrees, and lit from under the water and by four lamps set into the vault.
The pool is open 06:30 to 21:30 every day. At this length lane swimming isn't practical, and nobody tries it. Towels and robes are in the changing rooms, so you can come down from your floor in whatever you're wearing. Children are welcome until 18:00 with an adult.
Sauna and steam
-
Holzsauna
A Finnish sauna for eight, built in spruce and kept at 85 degrees, with a stove loaded by hand at seven in the morning and again at four. It is mixed and textile-free, as is the Swiss habit, though a wrap is provided and most people use one. A bell by the door calls the attendant. Open 07:00 to 21:00.
-
Dampfbad
A tiled steam room at 45 degrees for six people, with eucalyptus released every twenty minutes and a cold bucket shower outside the door that guests either love or avoid. Please wear swimwear here. Open 07:00 to 21:00.
Two treatment rooms are along the same corridor. Book a massage at reception a day ahead; out of season it is often possible the same evening.
Linden Terrace
A walled garden behind the house, away from the promenade, with two lime trees planted when the hotel opened.
The terrace has gravel underfoot, eight iron tables and enough shade in August to sit out at midday. From May to September the kitchen serves the Wintergarten card here, and the Kaminzimmer tea comes out too if you ask. The lamps are kept low in the evening, and the gate to the lane is locked at eleven.
This is the quiet side of the building. Sound from the promenade doesn't reach it, the kitchen extract moved to the roof in 2019, and the only regular noise is the bell of the Hofkirche a few streets away.
Swimming in the lake
The public lake baths are twelve minutes east along the water and open from late May. The desk keeps large towels for guests walking over, and someone on the staff will always know that morning's water temperature.
Telephones, cameras and laptops stay upstairs. Treatments and the sauna are for guests aged sixteen and over, and the pool admits all ages until six in the evening.
