Who publishes this website

This site is published by the operating company of Reusswald, Seequai 14, 6003 Luzern, Switzerland. Questions about anything on this page go to [email protected] or to the duty manager on +41 41 227 38 60. The company is named in full in the Terms of Use.

Booking and payments

There is no booking engine here: you cannot reserve a room, pay for anything, open an account, log in or set a password, and no part of the site takes a card number, a bank detail or an identity document. Reservations are made by telephone or electronic mail and are handled in our property management system, which is not connected to these pages.

What is collected

If you only read

Apart from the entries our hosting provider writes in its server log, we collect nothing about you. No tracking script runs, because analytics and advertising are switched off by default and stay off until you say otherwise.

The two values stored in your browser

This site writes at most two values into the local storage of your browser: lu_age_ok, which records that you confirmed being 18 or over, and lu_consent, which records whether you accepted or declined analytics and advertising. Both stay on your device and are never sent anywhere; the Cookie Policy describes them in full. Clearing your site data removes both.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records, for each request, the internet protocol address, the date and time, the page asked for, the response code, the amount of data sent, the referring address where one is given, and the browser's user agent string. These entries exist so that the site can be kept running and defended against abuse. They are kept for 30 days and then deleted on a rolling basis.

The contact form

The form on the contact page submits nothing on its own; the site carries no form handler. If you then write to us, we receive what you chose to put in the message, which is usually a name, an electronic mail address, approximate dates and a question. We use it only to answer you.

Analytics and advertising

No measurement tag is installed on this site at the time of writing. The pages do carry Google Consent Mode defaults, which set advertising and analytics storage to denied before anything else can run. If a Google Analytics 4 or Google Ads tag is added later, it will load only after you press Accept in the cookie bar, and declining keeps it from loading at all. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings control in the footer of every page.

Lawful bases

• Legitimate interest for the server logs and for keeping the site available and secure, under article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation and the corresponding provisions of the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection.
• Consent for analytics and advertising storage, and for the two browser values that are not strictly necessary.
• Steps taken at your request before entering a contract when you write to ask about a room, a table or the mezzanine floor.

How long things are kept

• Server log entries: 30 days.
• Electronic mail enquiries that do not become a stay: 12 months, then deleted.
• Correspondence attached to a stay: as long as Swiss commercial and tax law requires, which is ten years for the accounting record.
• The two browser values: until you clear them, or 12 months, whichever comes first.

Who else sees it

Our hosting company, which operates servers inside Switzerland and the European Union, sees the server logs because it writes them. Our electronic mail provider carries the messages you send us. Neither may use what passes through for its own purposes. We do not sell anything about you, trade lists or pass information to advertisers. Information leaves Switzerland only within the European Economic Area, where the level of protection is recognised as adequate.

Your rights

You may ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask for a correction, ask for deletion, ask us to limit what we do with it, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and withdraw consent you have given without that affecting what was lawful before. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may take the matter to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner in Bern, or to the supervisory authority of the country you live in.

Children

This site is not addressed to children. The mezzanine floor is restricted to persons aged 18 and over, and the age confirmation on the home page exists for that reason. We do not knowingly keep anything about a person under 16 who has written to us; if that has happened, tell us and it will be deleted.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection. It is a set of static files with no database behind it, no administrative login exposed to the public internet and no user accounts, which removes most of what could be attacked. Electronic mail is held on servers with access limited to reception and management staff.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it, and a note of what was altered is kept at reception for a year. Material changes are announced on the home page for 30 days. We do not notify readers individually, because we hold no list of readers to notify.
